Jio Platforms reported consolidated net profit of Rs 8,389 crore for the September 2026 quarter, up 13.7% year on year. Revenue rose 11.4% to Rs 40,475 crore, helped by subscriber gains, higher ARPU, and growth in digital services. It was the company’s first quarterly update after its listing, and Akash Ambani led the investor call.
Why it matters: Gives investors their first post-listing read on Jio’s growth and margins.

India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology released a handbook on Data Empowerment and Protection Architecture, or DEPA, for AI training. The framework is meant to let institutions share data while keeping control through contracts, secure computing environments and privacy safeguards. IT Secretary S Krishnan unveiled it in Bengaluru with support from the iSPIRT Foundation.
Why it matters: Gives India a formal framework for sharing data used to train AI systems.
🇮🇳 India: India money went to B2B manufacturing, B2B quick commerce, health tech, and AI infrastructure.
🌍 Elsewhere: Outside India, money went to Uzbek fintech and US AI startups.
The Tamil Nadu government ordered withdrawal of 65 criminal cases against about 1,800 people who joined protests against NEET, the nationwide medical entrance exam run by the National Testing Agency. The protests took place between May 10 and July 31, demanding that the exam be scrapped. Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay’s government also backs moving education to the State List and using Class 12 marks for medical admissions.

Bansi Dhar Brajwasi and Rahul Raj, who won the Tirhut graduates’ and Saran teachers’ seats as Independents, joined the BJP in Patna. Rahul Raj had earlier rebelled from the BJP and beat JD(U) candidate Anand Pushkar; Brajwasi defeated JD(U)’s Abhishek Jha by 9,147 votes. The BJP said the two have given support to the NDA, while the RJD called the switch illegal.
Why it matters: The switch could raise the BJP’s strength in the Bihar legislative council from 26.
State-owned oil companies raised the price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder by Rs 10, taking the Delhi rate to Rs 2,820 from November 1. The increase raises costs for hotels and restaurants; domestic LPG prices stay unchanged. Oil companies also raised aviation turbine fuel, or ATF, the jet fuel airlines buy, by Rs 1.37 per litre.
Why it matters: Restaurants and airlines face higher fuel bills, while households see no change in domestic LPG.
The Madhya Pradesh government suspended Panna-based Water Resources Department executive engineer C B Ahirwar after his comments about accepting money offered “willingly” went viral. The suspension came after Lokayukta police caught two department employees allegedly taking Rs 45,000 from a contractor linked to a pending bill. The order said Ahirwar’s conduct was unbecoming of a government servant and violated state service rules.
Why it matters: The suspension follows a bribery probe and puts the engineer under departmental action.
Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei said Iranian forces should respond immediately to any enemy threat, “without geographic limits”. He said Iran would decide when and how any renewed conflict ends and ordered the military target list updated to include US and Israeli assets. The warning comes as regional leaders urge restraint and diplomatic efforts continue.
Why it matters: Regional leaders called for restraint and a diplomatic solution at a security forum in Bahrain.
The State Department said most of the more than 300,000 visa revocations involved people no longer eligible to stay in the US because of criminal activity, public safety concerns, immigration violations or fraud. It did not break the total down by visa type or nationality. The figure is up from more than 175,000 revocations reported in August.
Why it matters: The administration is tightening visa screening and enforcing immigration laws.

Researchers in Romania tested a two-day group therapy called cognitive evolutionary therapy, which tries to reduce self-blame by linking breakup pain and other distress to human needs for closeness and safety. In a trial of 61 adults with depressive symptoms, people in therapy improved more than a waiting list group after one week. The benefit was smaller and no longer statistically significant at three months.
Why it matters: A brief group treatment may help depressive symptoms quickly, but the effect still needs larger confirmation.
A study in Science suggests the next ice age may have started about 2,000 years ago, then been cut short by human-driven climate change. The work focuses on the Laurentide Ice Sheet and the Barnes Ice Cap in Canada, using beryllium-10 in rocks and carbon-14 in dead vegetation to reconstruct ice history. The researchers say recent summer warming reversed the cap’s growth.
Why it matters: Human warming may have altered the long natural cycle that would have pushed Earth toward another glaciation.
